Advanced Camp takes your camper’s skills to the next level with a more hands-on, challenge-based outdoor experience. Campers advance their marksmanship through longer distances, moving targets, and scenario drills while also learning essential gear care, cleaning, and safety checks. They practice field navigation, range estimation, judgment-based decision-making, and realistic techniques like 3-D archery. Wildlife tracking, habitat assessment, and species identification deepen their understanding of conservation, and simulated hunts bring all of their skills together in lifelike situations that build confidence and readiness.

The program adapts each year for returning campers, offering fresh challenges and leadership opportunities so no one ever repeats the same experience.

Elite Camp

Elite Camp is the highest level of the KOSC experience, created for campers who’ve already shown strong skills, responsibility, and dedication. Admission is selective, ensuring participants are ready for greater independence, leadership, and challenge. Campers choose a specialty tract—such as advanced archery, big game strategy, marksmanship, or conservation science—and spend the week immersed in focused lessons, projects, and fieldwork. They study conservation through the Sportsmen’s Alliance curriculum and take on advanced simulations while also mentoring younger campers.

Each year brings new progression, allowing returning campers to keep advancing rather than repeating. Elite Camp shapes skilled outdoorsmen and women into confident young leaders with a lifelong commitment to safe, ethical, and conservation-minded decision-making.

A little about us

KOSC started their first year in the summer of 1998, starting with a single camp that welcomed 16 campers. The following year saw the expansion to 2 camps, each accommodating 16 children. Over the course of 26 years and 27 summer camps later, KOSC has flourished into one of California’s most successful and engaging hunter education programs. We take pride in hosting over 200 campers each summer!

2024 was KOSC’s 26 year of operation with 27 summer camps under its belt, and we have announced & implemented the “Outdoor Conservation Explorer’s” program, the first of its kind which gives youth hands-on-experience and an educated path to becoming an adult hunter. For over 26+ summers, KOSC has successfully trained thousands of kids in California.

Testimonials

“Thank you so much to KOSC!  Without you we would not be doing any fun activities like archery, hunter safety, kayaking and fishing.  It was epic fun.  Archery was one of my favorites because I have not done archery in years and archery was fun to me! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!”
